On March 1, 2019, Rice was ejected in a game against Bahia Basket for double technical fouls in less than three minutes of action. One day later, Rice parted ways with Instituto after appearing in five games - After appearing in two games for the New Zealand Breakers, he was arrested on November 14 and charged with assault following an incident at an Auckland bar.
