  2. bbc "G7 members called for Russia to reciprocate by agreeing to a ceasefire on equal terms and implementing it fully," the statement says. They also emphasised the need for robust "security arrangements" to ensure a lasting piece, warning Moscow it will face further sanctions if not.
  4. @Beonegro @McLeod Izgleda da je doslo do nekog kompromisa u Holandiji nltimes.nl Dutch Prime Minister Dick Schoof will not be forced to withdraw his support for the European Commission's 800 billion euro defense plan for the time being, having reached a compromise with the leaders of the coalition parties that form his Cabinet. Schoof will have to stand firm in Brussels to make sure that budgetary rules are not excessively relaxed, sources said after crisis talks on Thursday night.
  5. cnn nove ankete 59% of Americans think it’s not too likely or not at all likely that Trump’s approach will bring long-term peace between Russia and Ukraine, while 41% say it’s at least somewhat likely. More broadly, nearly 6 in 10 Americans disapprove of Trump’s handling of the US relationship with Russia (59%), and 55% disapprove of his handling of the situation in Ukraine. Half of Americans think that Trump’s approach to the war between Russia and Ukraine is bad for the US, compared to only 29% who think it’s good for the US (20% say it does not make a difference). This mirrors Americans’ broader views of Trump’s foreign policy moves so far in his second term: while 30% say his decisions have helped America’s standing in the world, more than half (54%) say that they’ve hurt America’s standing. A broad majority of Americans view Ukraine as either an ally or friendly to the US (72%) and Russia as either unfriendly or an enemy to the US (81%). The share that considers Ukraine to be an ally has climbed 7 points since 2014, just after Russia’s annexation of Crimea. Negative views of Russia have also changed since then, with the share describing Russia as an enemy climbing from 25% in May 2014 to 41% by 2018 and 44% now. American sentiment towards traditional European allies tested in the poll has dropped uniformly since August 2018. Just 58% now describe Great Britain as an ally, down from 66% in 2018. That figure has dropped from 49% to 39% for Germany, and from 56% to 45% for France. Americans are also more likely to view Mexico and Canada negatively compared to the past – only about half of Americans call Canada an ally now (that has been as high as 65% in a 2000 CNN poll) and only 25% feel that way toward Mexico (40% felt that way in 2000).
  6. cnn Putin suggested that Ukraine halt mobilization and any training of its troops, and that other nations stop supplying weapons to Kyiv during the ceasefire – at a time when “Russian troops are advancing on almost all areas of combat contact.”
  7. Koliko vidim, UK mediji su zestoko raspalili po Putinu jer jos uvek nije prihvatio primirje, a i Zelenski tvrdi da on samo razvlaci i da mu ne pada na pamet da prihvati ovaj predlog. bbc dopisnik iz usa Vladimir Putin appears to have identified the weaknesses in the American ceasefire proposal and is characteristically exploiting them to throw “the ball” back to Trump, to use the preferred metaphor of the Americans on this. What the Russian leader is saying is that you can’t have an “immediate” ceasefire without first agreeing on terms; upending Trump’s demand for a truce first and talks second. And, of course, he is saying he accepts the principle of an end to the war to try to avoid the accusation of being the spoiler. But he means a ceasefire on his terms, so he is throwing a whole series of questions back to Trump about the nature of the proposed truce, particularly around any Ukrainian troop withdrawals. --- Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky says Vladimir Putin's response to the ceasefire proposal is "manipulative” and he rejects his "preconditions". "What we've heard from Russia are Putin's very predictable and very manipulative words," Zelensky said in his evening video address tonight. "In practice, he's preparing a rejection." "Of course, Putin is afraid to tell Trump directly that he wants to continue this war, that he wants to continue killing Ukrainians. "That's why Moscow surrounds the ceasefire idea with preconditions that won't make anything possible, or make it impossible for longer."
  9. Prihvata primirje nacelno.
  10. bbc Putin will meet US envoy Steve Witkoff behind closed doors in Moscow this evening.
  11. Putin trenutno razgovara sa Lukasenkom. Posle tog sastanka imaju zajednicki press gde se ocekuje da i on govori primirju. Kasnije danas Trump i Rutte takodje imaju sastanak. cnn In comments to Russian media this morning, Kremlin aide Yuri Ushakov outlines Russia's position on the 30-day ceasefire proposal. In a nutshell, Ushakov rejects it, saying it would amount to nothing more than a temporary respite for the Ukrainian military and a chance for it to regroup. He also says that Russia is seeking a "long-term peace settlement in Ukraine that takes into account Moscow's interests and concerns", and adds that a "normal exchange of opinions" between Russia and the US is "taking place in a calm manner". Ushakov also says the US understands that Ukraine's membership of Nato is out of the question.
  12. cnn In a post on Truth Social, Trump said his administration would impose a 200% tariff on alcoholic beverages from the EU unless it rescinds the 50% tariff the European government imposed Wednesday on US whiskey. “If this Tariff is not removed immediately, the U.S. will shortly place a 200% Tariff on all WINES, CHAMPAGNES, & ALCOHOLIC PRODUCTS COMING OUT OF FRANCE AND OTHER E.U. REPRESENTED COUNTRIES,” Trump said. “This will be great for the Wine and Champagne businesses in the U.S.”
  13. bbc An aide to Vladimir Putin dismisses a short-term ceasefire with Kyiv, saying it is "nothing but a temporary respite" for Ukraine. It comes as Donald Trump's envoy Steve Witkoff is in Moscow ahead of US-Russia talks on a 30-day ceasefire proposal.
  14. bbc Trump says US team on way to Russia 'right now' to discuss Ukraine ceasefire plan. --- Turkey's President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has welcomed Ukraine's accepting a 30-day ceasefire with Russia after talks with US officials yesterday. "We hope that Russia will also respond constructively," he said in a statement with Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk. Erdogan reiterated Turkey's willingness to host further peace negotiations - an offer Ankara has made before on several occasions.
  16. bbc The UK was "intimately involved" in helping Ukraine and the US reach an agreement over a proposed ceasefire deal with Russia, according to UK government sources. Sir Keir praised the "remarkable breakthrough" and called it an "important moment for peace in Ukraine". The UK sources say that last week the prime minister's National Security Adviser, Jonathan Powell, worked with his US counterpart Mike Waltz, and German and French officials, to fashion a plan for a ceasefire and the steps that might follow. Over the weekend Powell travelled to Kyiv to meet Zelensky and help draft a written proposal which included a temporary pause in fighting, then confidence-building measures such as an exchange of prisoners-of-war, the return of Ukrainian children taken by Russia and the release of civilians. That proposal was agreed by the Ukrainians and the Americans, setting the stage for what happened in Saudi Arabia on Tuesday. Sir Keir congratulated the two men on the agreement, adding "we now all need to redouble our efforts" to secure a peace deal for Ukraine. He said: "As both American and Ukrainian delegations have said, the ball is now in the Russian court. Russia must now agree to a ceasefire and an end to the fighting too." Trump told reporters that US officials would discuss the deal with Moscow either late on Tuesday or Wednesday as he wanted to "get this show on the road". When asked about the 30-day ceasefire proposal, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said "let's not get ahead of ourselves".
  19. Rubio kaze da je sad lopta u ruskom dvoristu bbc US Secretary of State Marco Rubio says the US has made an offer, which the Ukrainians have accepted, "to enter into a ceasefire and enter into negotiations to end this conflict in a way that is enduring and sustainable". The United States "will immediately lift the pause on intelligence sharing and resume security assistance to Ukraine", a joint statement from the US and Ukraine, shared by the US state department, says.
  20. cnn The market broadly slumped on Monday – but shares of Tesla fell even more sharply. The 15% drop in Tesla shares wiped out the last of any remaining gains since Election Day. In a show of support, Trump said early Tuesday morning he would buy a Tesla. “Elon Musk is’ ‘putting it on the line’ in order to help our Nation, and he is doing a FANTASTIC JOB!” Trump said in a post on Truth Social. “I’m going to buy a brand new Tesla tomorrow morning as a show of confidence and support for Elon Musk, a truly great American.”
  23. cnn Rubio says Ukraine partial ceasefire plan 'has promise' ahead of talks in Saudi Arabia. "I'm not saying that alone is enough but it's the kind of concession you would need to see in order to end the conflict," US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said on Monday. Kyiv is expected to propose an aerial and naval truce with Russia during the negotiations on Tuesday, a Ukrainian official told AFP. Russia has previously rejected the idea of a temporary ceasefire, saying it was an attempt to buy time and prevent Ukraine's military collapse.
