Evropski deo sezone presecamo jednim skokom preko okeana u Montreal.

Ovo ce izgleda biti poslednji put u dogledno vreme da ce se VN Kanade na stazi Zil Vilnev u Montrealu voziti u tradicionalnom letnjem terminu jer se od sledece sezone planira njeno pomeranje u maj da bude uparena sa VN Majamija. Koliko je ovo pametno ne znam jer ovde kod nas je do pre dve nedelje temperatura bila u rangu 5 - 15 celzijusa sa kisom i vetrom. No kalendar sa skokom sa Bliskog istoka u Severnu Ameriku pa u Evropu pa opet u Severnu Ameriku i ponovo Evropu stvarno nema smisla. A Majami se pomeriti nece jer su kod njih u julu vec tropske vrucine...

Trka u Barseloni prva pod novim strozijim pravilima kontrole aerodinamike prednjih krila nam je dokazala dve stvari: prvo, da je Meklarenov bolid izistinski brz i da dosadasnja dominacija nije bila samo posledica trik krila, i drugo da Maksu Ferstapenu i dalje fali par dasaka u glavi. Deluje da Meklarenu ove godine moze da dohaka samo Meklaren, tojest ako situacija izmedju Pjastrija i Norisa tokom sezone eskalira. Za sada su stvari pod kontrolom ali videcemo hoce li tako i ostati sto se vise borba za titulu bude zaostravala.

Sa druge strane Red Bul je u problemu jer su ocigledno konstruisali bolid koji je samo jedan covek na planeti u stanju da vozi, a taj jedan je na ivici da zaradi kazneni poen koji ce ga automatski parkirati na jednu trku. Konstruktorski poeni su naravno vitalni jer poredak na kraju godine odredjuje visinu novcane nagrade za timove. Ferstapen u momentima u kojima uspeva da obuzda frustracije i pomracenja uma jedini je koji se ove godine uspeo umesati medju Meklarenovce  i da ustine po neku pobedu ili pol poziciju (ako ne racunamo sprintove gde je u Kini uzeo Hamilton). 

Ispred Red Bula u poretku konstruktora ali iza Ferstapena u poretku vozaca su Ferari i Mercedes odnosno Hamilto, Lekler, Rasel i mali Antoneli. Njihova sezona je do sada isla u fazonu toplo-hladno, povremeni bljeskovi praceni neobjasnjivim padovima ali i to je dovoljno da sa po dva vozaca koji aktivno skupljaju bodove budu ispred Red Bula sa jednim vozacem pa makar on vazio i za najtalentovanijeg danasnje generacije (uprkos vec pominanom nedostatku drvenarije).

Stazom u Montrealu dominiraju dugacki brzi pravci i uske i spore sikane sto naravno znaci da su ovde kocnice izlozene kriticnim naprezanjima. Takodje vuca na izlazu iz krivina i aerodinamicka efikasnost na pravcima su od kljucnog znacaja i ko uspe da ubode setap koji ce sva tri ova elementa da pomiri i plus bude dovoljno nezan prema gumama taj ce biti glavni favorit za pobedu. Staza ima tri DRS zone ali samo dve tacke detekcije sto znaci da onaj ko uspe da pretekne kod "zida sampiona" moze da koristi DRS tokom start-cilj pravca da dodatno pobegne preteknutom. Pored ovog mesta i krivina ukosnica br. 10 koja je najsporija tacka staze je takodje mesto gde se cesto vide preticanja a dueli nisu neuobicajeni ni u kompleksu krivina 1 i 2. Sve u svemu - Montreal retko razocara sto se tice akcije na stazi.

Ali ove godine oko staze se dogadjaju stvari koje bi mogle da pokvare utisak - prvo tu je problem sa dimom od sumskih pozara na zapadu Kanade koje vetar nadnosi na istok i ovih dana Toronto i Montreal vaze za dva najzagadjenija grada na planeti (od negde srede-cetvrtka Toronto je u izmaglici i oseca se konstantno miris paljevine, a slicno je i u Montrealu), a kao drugo trenutno je u Montrealu strajk zaposlenih u lokalnoj samoupravi sto ukljucuje radnike u javnom prevozu, gradskoj cistoci itd a mnogi od dobrovoljaca redara tokom trke se regrutuju bas iz ove grupe pa ostaje da se vidi koliko ce njihovi sindikati biti voljni za kompromis. Zivimo u interesantnim vremenima, doista.

Pireli i ove godine ovde donosi najmeksu kombinaciju guma C4 - C5 - C6.

Pobedu od prosle godine brani Ferstapen. Rekord kruga 1:13.078 s drzi Valteri Botas a postavio ga je 2019. dok je jos vozio za Mercedes. Najvise pobeda na VN Kanade po 7 imaju Mihael Sumaher i Luis Hamilton a u konkurenciji konstruktora Meklaren sa 13 (Ferari ima 14 pobeda ako se racunaju trke van sampionata F1).

It was an extraordinary press conference. The kind that left even the greenest of journalists shaking their heads in disbelief at what they had just witnessed.
 

Lance Stroll’s performance in the pre-Canadian Grand Prix press event was as unconvincing as it was baffling.

 

As he spoke about the presumably optimistic news of being passed fit for his home race, he did so with all the joy of learning that his pet dog had been put down.

 

The Canadian trudged up the stairs to the press room in Montreal like he was on a trip to the dentist for root canal work, where he plonked himself down in front of the media.

 

Instead of beaming and being delighted to be back and fit enough to compete in his home race after being forced to sit out of the Spanish Grand Prix due to a wrist injury, he was incredibly dour in his responses.

 

He was cagey with the details of the wrist problem, cited as the reason he withdrew from the Spanish GP after a disappointing qualifying session.

 

Aston Martin team boss, Andy Cowell, had also remained tight-lipped on the medical procedure Stroll underwent - as of course is his right - so all we knew is it was the consequence of the cycling accident he had in the pre-season of the 2023 season.

 

“It's just the old injury that I had with it a couple of years ago. Just started to bug me again and, yeah, just got it sorted,” said Stroll when asked to explain the procedure.

 

And how confident was he that now he had undergone the treatment that there would not be a recurrence of the problem?

 

“Pretty confident. Should be good,” was all he said in reply.

 

It is never easy dealing with a private medical matter in a public forum, but in this instance, it is unusual for a driver to be so candid.

 

He was flippant over other vague questions too. He was asked: “Just out of interest, when did you first come to the circuit Gilles Villeneuve?” It was a classic soft-soaping from the moderator, surely he’d bite and show some passion for his home race?

 

“A long time ago,” was the monosyllabic reply.

 

It was increasingly difficult to watch, but perhaps the biggest takeaway was that he did not deny he threw a tantrum after his disappointment in qualifying. Reports had suggested that he broke items in the team’s garage and swore at a team member.

 

When asked, he said: “Yeah, I was frustrated. Frustrated about my wrist in the last three races and it was just inhibiting my driving. I knew that Sunday was going to be tricky, probably impossible, and at that point I was pretty frustrated about it.”

 

There was at least some passion, then. It would be good if we could see some of that from time to time.

Nije kao da je Strol ikad bio neka zanimljiva osoba na ovim konferencijama, samo nikad nije bio u fokusu kao sada. Elem, ako on izgura do kraja sezone biće čudo.... a za Aston bi bilo dobro da ne izgura.
