Posto sustina liberalnog i jeste u slobodi, pre svega slobodi misljenja, a i delanja u okvirima zakonitosti, dolazimo do kljuca ove sintagme koju sam boldovao - zakonitost liberalne demokratije.

  3. DW Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has responded to a call by US President-elect Donald Trump for an "immediate ceasefire" and peace talks in Ukraine by saying that his country needed "effective guarantees" for a peace that was secured from further Russian aggression. Both Trump and Zelenskyy made their comments after three-way talks hosted by French President Emmanuel Macron at the Elysee Palace in Paris that came as Moscow's invasion of its neighbor draws close to the three-year mark. "A ceasefire without guarantees can be reignited at any moment, as Putin has already done before," he said, adding: "War cannot be endless — only peace mut be permanent and reliable." Zelenskyy also said that 43,000 Ukrainian soldiers had been killed and that 370,000 had been wounded in the course of the Russian invasion. Kyiv, like Moscow, has rarely given any indications of casualty figures among its armed forces, and observers say they are likely to be far higher than admitted on both sides.

cnn “The news that Assad and his family left Syria is not true,” Yaqoub Rezazadeh, a member of the Iranian Parliament’s National Security and Foreign Policy Committees said Saturday, according to Iranian state-owned Press TV. A source with knowledge of the situation told CNN Saturday that Assad isn’t at any of the locations in the city where you’d expect to find him. Assad’s Presidential Guard are no longer deployed at his usual place of residence, as they would be if he was there, the source said. The Syrian president’s office insists that Assad has not fled the capital. An adviser to Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei met with Assad in Damascus on Friday, Press TV reported Saturday. Iranian officials also deny reports that their staff are evacuating the embassy in Damascus. “Those claims are not true,” Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei said. “Iran’s embassy (in Damascus) is still operating and continues with its routine activities,” according to Press TV.
  6. bbc Britain's defence ministry says that in November Russia suffered 45,680 casualties, more than during any month since its full-scale invasion in February 2022. According to the latest UK Defence Intelligence estimate, Russia lost a daily average of 1,523 men, killed and wounded. On 28 November, it says, Russia lost more than 2,000 men in a single day, the first time this has happened. "We're seeing the Russians grinding out more advances," one official said, on condition of anonymity. "But at enormous cost." Officials said the casualty figures were based on open-source material, sometimes cross-referenced with classified data. All in all, Russia is estimated to have lost about 125,800 soldiers over the course of its autumn offensives, according to the Washington-based Institute for the Study of War (ISW).
  11. U mnogim demokratskim zemljama nema mesanja u izborni proces i zakon se postuje. Or else. Teska i hrabra odluka Rumunije. Nije lako priznati da ti strana sila do te mere manipulise stanovnistvom i izbornim procesom.

  14. bbc Romania's constitutional court has annulled the result of the first round of voting in the presidential election just days before the second round was due to take place. It means the process will be restarted from scratch, with the government due to decide a date for a new vote. The court's decision comes after intelligence documents were declassified, suggesting Georgescu benefitted from a mass influence operation – conducted from abroad – to interfere with the result of the vote.

DW According to the Russian telegram channel 'Rybar', General Alexander Chaiko, who has previously led Russian troops in Syria, arrived in the country. In parallel, Moscow is also seeking contact with other powers involved, above all Turkey, which is benefiting the most from the rebels' advance. Putin has spoken to Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on the phone, and representatives of Russia, Iran and Turkey are due to meet next weekend. "These are very difficult and exhausting negotiations for the Kremlin, which is already devoting so much nerve, energy and resources to Ukraine," states orientalist Ruslan Suleimanov. In his view, it is a given that the Kremlin will have to divert some of these resources to Syria.
  17. bbc Calin Georgescu, the fringe nationalist politician leading the presidential race in Romania, has told the BBC that he would end all support for Ukraine if elected. On Wednesday, in a highly unusual move, Romania's outgoing president published declassified documents that detailed what was called a massive and "highly organised" campaign for Georgescu on TikTok co-ordinated by a "state actor". The papers included an intelligence assessment that Russia was carrying out hybrid attacks on Romania, which it sees as an "enemy state". The constitutional court is now being flooded with requests to look into the allegations of meddling with a view to possibly cancelling the election. Prosecutors today announced they were opening a criminal investigation but there is no timeline on when that might conclude. "They are afraid," is how Georgescu brushed away evidence that hundreds of thousands of dollars were spent pushing campaign content for him, breaking both Romanian election law and TikTok's own rules. In a sometimes tetchy interview in which he praised Donald Trump and the Hungarian populist leader Viktor Orban, Georgescu referred to Vladimir Putin as a "patriot and a leader". But when questioned about Russia's war on Ukraine, he first asked, "Are you sure of that?", appearing to deny the war's very existence. His endorsement of conspiracy theories has also sparked concerns, including denying the Covid pandemic and doubting that anyone ever landed on the Moon.

cnn Government aircraft – along with Russian planes based in Syria – have carried out bombing raids against opposition positions in Aleppo and Idlib provinces. In his first comments since the lightning takeover, Assad has said that Syria will continue “to defend its stability and territorial integrity in the face of all terrorists and their supporters,” during calls with regional leaders on Saturday. Assad said Syria was capable “with the help of its allies and friends, of defeating and eliminating them, no matter how intense their terrorist attacks are.” This presents a dilemma for Western governments, Asli Aydintasbas, a Visiting Fellow at Brookings Institution, told CNN. “Should they be cheering the opposition taking over Syria’s second-largest city Aleppo, or should they actually worry about the city falling under Islamist rule?” she said. Aydintasbas believes the events that have unfolded in Syria show a new balance of power in the country, with Turkey emerging as a “major actor,” while Russia’s power is weakened and Iran is “on its back foot.”
Meni ovo lici na nesto izmedju totalne kapitulacije i zamrznutog konflikta. cnn Kellogg says the United States doesn’t need involvement in another conflict, and its own stocks of weaponry have suffered from aiding Ukraine, leaving the country potentially exposed in any conflict with China over Taiwan. He says Ukraine’s NATO membership - in truth a very distant prospect, tentatively offered to Kyiv in symbolic solidarity - should be put on hold indefinitely, “in exchange for a comprehensive and verifiable peace deal with security guarantees.” Foremost, the plan says it should become “a formal US policy to seek a ceasefire and negotiated settlement.” The frontlines would be frozen by a ceasefire, and a demilitarized zone imposed. For agreeing to this, Russia would get limited sanctions relief, and full relief only when a peace deal is signed that is to Ukraine’s liking. A levy on Russian energy exports would pay for Ukraine’s reconstruction. Ukraine would not be asked to give up on reclaiming occupied territory, but it would agree to pursue it through diplomacy alone. It accepts “this would require a future diplomatic breakthrough which probably will not occur before Putin leaves office.”

Dobar vic. Kome je do smeha.
  24. Reuters Kazakh police are investigating the brief appearance of the Ukrainian flag on a large LED screen in the capital city, Astana, during a visit there by Russian President Vladimir Putin, Kazakhstan's interior ministry said on Thursday. Ukraine's flag - with its horizontal bands of blue and yellow - briefly appeared late on Wednesday instead of the Russian white, blue and red tricolor on a screen located on one of Astana's main thoroughfares. Putin was already in the city at the time, and the screen was soon switched off, but images and videos of the incident quickly circulated online.
