cnn “Long-range precision weapons cannot be used without space-based reconnaissance,” Putin said Tuesday during a state visit to Uzbekistan. “Final target selection” or “launch mission” for Western systems need to be made by “highly skilled specialists who rely on this reconnaissance data,” Putin said. “So, these officials from NATO countries, especially the ones based in Europe, particularly in small European countries, should be fully aware of what is at stake,” he emphasized. “They should keep in mind that theirs are small and densely populated countries, which is a factor to reckon with before they start talking about striking deep into the Russian territory.”

Da, prvi je Reuters done vest o tome https://www.reuters.com/world/europe/ukraines-long-range-glide-bomb-blunted-by-russian-jamming-2024-05-23/ inace, Blinken dolazi u Cesku ove nedelje da razgovara o vojnoj pomoci Ukrajni, a francuski vojni instruktori dolaze u Ukrajnu i njihove centre za obuku vojnika veoma uskoro. reuters "I am pleased to welcome France's initiative to send instructors to Ukraine to train Ukrainian servicemen," Oleksandr Syrskyi said on the Telegram messaging app after talks via video link with French defence minister Sebastien Lecornu. "I have already signed the documents that will enable the first French instructors to visit our training centres shortly and familiarize themselves with their infrastructure and personnel."

bbc At least two people have been killed and 35 others wounded after Russian forces hit a supermarket in the northern Ukrainian city of Kharkiv with two glide bombs, local officials say. Kharkiv Mayor Ihor Terekhov wrote on Telegram: "A large number of people are missing. This is pure terrorism." President Zelensky added: "This strike on Kharkiv is another manifestation of Russian madness. Only madmen like [Russian President Vladimir] Putin are capable of killing and terrorising people in this way." A second strike in central Kharkiv later on Saturday injured eight people, according to Mr Terekhov. The latest attack on Kharkiv is another sign of Moscow's growing confidence. Its forces appear to be taking advantage of a window of opportunity to push their advantage while Ukraine waits for further Western weapons to arrive at the front. Glide bombs of the type used in the attack on are built by adding fold-out wings and satellite navigation to old Soviet bombs. They are cheap but destructive. President Volodymyr Zelensky said 3,000 such bombs were dropped on the country in March alone. The Centre for European Policy Analysis (CEPA) said in a recent report that they were decisive in February’s capture of the key eastern town of Avdiivka.

Inace, to je i najbolji pokazatelj koliko je Rusija spremna daleko da ide i svi koji veruju da im je cilj samo Ukrajna, neka dva puta procitaju tekst. bbc The European Union has denounced Russia's removal of buoys marking the border with Estonia on the Narva River. A total of 24 out of 50 buoys placed to mark sailing routes were removed in the early hours of Thursday, Estonian officials said. Tensions over the border have risen since Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022. EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrell said "such actions are unacceptable". "This border incident is part of a broader pattern of provocative behaviour and hybrid actions by Russia, including on its maritime and land borders in the Baltic Sea region," he said in a statement. Moscow has taken issue with the placement of the floating markers, used to prevent boats from straying into foreign waters, and disputed the planned locations of about half the 250 buoys, Estonia's border guard service said. Estonian Prime Minister Kaja Kallas said she was trying to clarify the situation with Russia. She said it appeared to be part of a "broader pattern" of action by Moscow to use "tools related to the border to create fear and anxiety". Estonia's foreign ministry said it had summoned Russia's chargé d'affaires and said it was treating the move as a "provocative border incident". In a statement, it said it had demanded the "immediate return" of the buoys. It comes after the Russian defence ministry briefly published a proposal to revise its maritime border in the Baltic Sea this week. The proposal was deleted after creating concern among Nato members, including Estonia.

bbc At least six people have been killed and more than a dozen injured in a Russian missile attack on Kharkiv, north-eastern Ukraine, according to the regional head. A further two people remain missing after the attack, which saw Russian forces strike Ukraine's second-largest city at least 15 times, Oleg Sinegubov said. He advised people in the city to remain in shelters. Ukraine's state railway company said several of its facilities had been damaged in the attack and a number of its employees had been injured. On Wednesday, Mr Sinegubov said fighting was continuing near the towns of Pletenivka and Vovchansk, but that Ukraine's forces were in control. "This weakness is not ours, but the world's, which has not dared to deal with terrorists in the way they deserve for three years," he said in a post on X. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said the attacks on Kharkiv showed that Russia was taking advantage of Ukraine's lack of air defences.

DW Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has said he would like to see China and countries of the Global South at a peace conference in Switzerland next month. Zelenskyy said China's attendance would allow it to come to terms with its fears that Russia losing in Ukraine would mean a victory for the West, which is undesirable to Beijing. Talking to the AFP news agency on Friday Zelenskyy said the Chinese leaders "want to find a balance between the two ... That's why I would like to see China involved in the peace summit." In the interview, Zelenskyy also called on other countries to send delegations to Switzerland for the summit, which will not be attended by Russia. "If there is no representative of your state, this is a public response that when you say that we all want peace, no, you want Russia to win," he said.

bbc Ukraine has pulled back its troops from several villages in the border region of Kharkiv following continued pressure from Russian forces. Soldiers had come under heavy fire and moved to "more advantageous positions" in two areas of the north-eastern region, a military spokesman said. Throughout the course of the two-year war, Ukraine has typically used this type of language to signify a retreat. President Volodymyr Zelensky has cancelled all upcoming foreign trips as troops struggle to contain the new cross-border incursion, with several towns and villages coming under heavy fire. A spokesman for the Ukrainian military said in a statement that the decision to move troops from the Lukyantsi and Vovchansk areas was taken to "preserve the lives of our servicemen and avoid losses". The capture of Vovchansk, though not of specific militarily significance, would represent a blow to Ukrainian morale. US Secretary of State Antony Blinken announced an additional $2bn in military aid to the Ukrainian war effort while on a visit to Kyiv. Mr Blinken told reporters on Wednesday the fund would provide weapons "today" and invest in Ukraine's industrial base. "We're rushing ammunition, armoured vehicles, missiles, air defences to get them to the front lines," Mr Blinken said. "We've been through challenging times together, I have every confidence that together we will get through these difficult moments."

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken tells President Volodymyr Zelensky that military aid is "now on its way" during a surprise visit to Kyiv. The top US diplomat tells the Ukrainian president the weapons will "make a real difference" against the ongoing Russian aggression on the battlefield. A senior US official says the American-funded weapons now arriving at the front line include air defence interceptors, artillery and ATACMS long-range precision guided missiles. The visit comes as the country struggles to hold back a major Russian incursion near its second biggest city of Kharkiv. The cross-border offensive in Kharkiv region is one of the most significant Russian ground attacks since the start of the war.

CNN Ukraine’s top general says the situation in the northern Kharkiv region has “significantly worsened” after Russia claimed to have captured four further villages as it expanded its surprise cross-border offensive. Speaking on British television, UK Foreign Secretary David Cameron acknowledged it was an “extremely dangerous moment,” adding that Russia had effectively “invaded [Ukraine] again.”

bbc Russian attacks in north-east Ukraine have prompted the evacuation of almost 1,800 people from the Kharkiv area, the regional governor has said. Heavy fighting has continued in the border area following Russia's surprise incursions on Friday. Kyiv has been expecting a Russian summer offensive for some time - including a possible attempt to capture Kharkiv, Ukraine's second city. On Saturday Russia said it had seized five villages near the town of Vovchansk in its latest offensive. The BBC has not been able to independently verify the claim. It is still not clear how far the Russians will advance - whether this is a probing attack or the start of something bigger. Ukrainian artillery guns are now firing back. The booms of exchanging fire echo loudly down the already bomb-damaged streets. A total of 1,775 people have been evacuated, Kharkiv regional head Oleh Syniehubov said on social media. Hundreds more remain in Vovchansk, just 6km (3.7 miles) from the Russian border. Russia's air force is having an increasingly deadly effect, and for now Ukraine has no answer. Reports suggest Moscow is hoping to create a 10km (six-mile) buffer zone for its Belgorod region, after a series of Ukrainian cross-border attacks.

Bice bas zestoko narednih dana i nedelja.
