  1. bbc An entire family - a married couple and their two young sons - have been killed in an overnight Russian drone attack in Ukraine's north-eastern Sumy region, local officials have said. Regional head Oleh Hryhorov said a residential building was hit in the village of Chernechchyna. The bodies of the two children, aged four and six, and their parents were later recovered from the wreckage.
  3. bbc The US is considering a request by Ukraine for long-range Tomahawk missiles, US Vice-President JD Vance has said. However, Vance added President Donald Trump would be making "the final determination" on the matter. While Vance remained ambivalent about Ukraine's request for Tomahawks in his remarks on Sunday, the US special envoy to Ukraine, Keith Kellogg, seemed to suggest Trump had already authorised strikes deep into Russian territory. Asked on Fox News whether Washington had allowed Kyiv to carry out long-range strikes within Russia in specific instances, Kellogg said: "The answer is yes, use the ability to hit deep, there are no such things as sanctuaries."

Euroactiv With 84% of the votes counted late Sunday, the Party of Action and Solidarity (PAS), in power since 2021, stood at 44.90% compared to the pro-Russian Patriotic Bloc at 27.71%. PAS gained 52.8% in 2021. The BE “Alternativa” followed with 8.79%, the Our Party with 6.40%, and the Dignity and Truth Platform Party (PPDA) with 5.87%. If it fails to get a majority in parliament, the ruling party may struggle to find partners to govern, analysts have warned, possibly throwing up hurdles in the push towards EU integration, launched after Moscow’s 2022 invasion of Ukraine.

Danas kljucni izbori u Moldaviji, kasno veceras bi trebalo da se znaju rezultati DW Igor Dodon, former president of Moldova and a member of the pro-Russian Patriotic Electoral Bloc, said Sunday's vote is a day when "the people are not afraid, but others are afraid of the people." After casting his ballot, Dodon also dismissed the claims made by his rivals of "massive interference" by Moscow, insisting that “the interference came from the West.” “We saw this interference through various foundations, through (US billionaire George) Soros and non-governmental organizations that intimidated people. We believe this to be wrong, we are in favor of good relations with the East and the West,” Dodon told reporters. While the outcome of the vote will not be known until Sunday evening at the earliest, Dodon said it was "already clear that the opposition will win." "But President Maia Sandu has indicated that the outcome of the election could be annulled, like it happened in Romania. This is why I am calling on everyone to join the protest at 12:00 at the parliament building, to protect our victory," he was quoted as saying by Russia's Interfax news agency.
  7. cnn At least four people were killed in Kyiv during the overnight attacks, according to Ukrainian President Volodymr Zelensky. Local officials said 42 people were injured in the capital and surrounding region, and 31 in Zaporizhzhia in southern Ukraine. Drones were still being shot down over the Ukrainian capital on Sunday morning. The air force said Russia fired 595 drones and 48 missiles, including two ballistic missiles and powerful cruise missiles. It said air defenses had shot down or suppressed 43 cruise missiles and the vast majority of drones. Ukraine has recently received a Patriot missile defense system from Israel, according to Zelensky, and is expecting the delivery of two more from Germany this year. The Patriot batteries are critical for its air defenses.
Pusti ga, neka laje.
  10. bbc Drones have been seen near military facilities including Denmark's largest, following a series of incidents that caused air disruption earlier this week. The devices were observed above Karup airbase, among others, forcing it to briefly close its airspace to commercial traffic. Possible sightings were also reported in Germany, Norway and Lithuania. It is the latest in a string of suspicious drone activity in Denmark, raising concerns about the nation's vulnerability to aerial attack and sparking fears of potential Russian involvement. Danish authorities said Thursday's incursions appeared to be a "hybrid attack", but cautioned that they had no evidence to suggest Moscow was behind it. Friday's incident took place around 20:15 local time (18:15 GMT) and lasted several hours, duty officer Simon Skelsjaer told news agency AFP.
  12. bbc Russian President Vladimir Putin's spokesman, Dmitry Peskov, suggested the reason for Trump's change of tone was that he had just talked to the Ukrainian president. The US president, he told reporters, had made the comments "apparently under the influence of the vision put forward by Zelensky... this vision is in absolute contrast with our understanding of the current state of affairs". "The thesis that Ukraine can fight something back, we believe it erroneous. The situation on the front line speaks for itself."

bbc The president of Moldova Maia Sandu has warned that her country's independence and European future are in danger after police arrested dozens of people accused of involvement in a plot to stoke violent disorder, allegedly backed by Russia. Just days before Sunday's pivotal parliamentary elections, Moldovan police said they had confiscated weapons and explosives in raids across the country. They allege some of the 74 detainees had travelled to Serbia for training by Russian instructors, including with firearms. Addressing the nation, President Sandu accused the Kremlin of "pouring hundreds of millions of euros" into Moldova in an attempt to foment violence and spread disinformation and fear.
  15. DW Mariana Katzarova, the UN special rapporteur on human rights in Russia, has presented a report describing rising use of criminal prosecution, long prison terms, torture and other abuse since mid-2024. She told journalists that the masterminds of the crackdown are acting with impunity and using "new elaborate tools," including torture, to suppress dissent. Her report documented at least 3,905 convictions for peaceful dissent during the yearlong period. Through July, more than 150 minors aged 14 to 17 were added to the federal list of extremists and terrorists, with some accused of treason and allegedly tortured for confessions. By mid-July, a total of 1,040 people and organizations — nearly one-quarter of them journalists — had been designated as foreign agents, including 133 added since January.

  17. bbc At least three people have been killed and more than 30 injured in a "massive" overnight Russian aerial attack on Ukraine, President Volodymyr Zelensky says. He says regions across the country were targeted as part of a "deliberate strategy" to "intimidate civilians and destroy our infrastructure", with one direct missile hit reported on a residential building. Ukraine's air force says Moscow launched 619 drones and missiles. Russia's defence ministry says its "massive strike" used "precision weapons" and targeted military-industrial facilities. Separately, Russia says four people were killed in a Ukrainian drone attack on the Samara region. Kyiv says it hit a major oil refinery there. Ukraine also says another Russian oil refinery was damaged in the neighbouring Saratov region.

  20. bbc Estonia has requested a consultation with other Nato members after Russian warplanes violated its airspace on Friday. Three Russian MiG-31 fighter jets entered the Estonian skies "without permission and remained there for a total of 12 minutes" over the Gulf of Finland, the government said. Italy, Finland and Sweden scrambled jets under Nato's mission to bolster its eastern flank. A Nato spokesperson said it was "yet another example of reckless Russian behaviour and Nato's ability to respond". Estonian Prime Minister Kristen Michal said "Nato's response to any provocation must be united and strong". "We consider it essential to consult with our allies to ensure shared situational awareness and to agree on our next joint steps," Michal said. US President Donald Trump said on Friday: "I don't love it. I don't like when that happens. Could be big trouble." Estonia, which shares a border with Russia to the east, says this was the fifth Russian violation of its airspace this year. Officials said the Russian aircraft entered its airspace from the north-east and were intercepted by Finnish jets over the Gulf of Finland. Once inside Estonian airspace, Italian F-35 jets, based in Estonia, were deployed under Nato's Baltic Air Policing mission to escort the aircraft out. The government said the Russian jets had no flight plans, had their transponders turned off and also did not have two-way radio communication with Estonian air traffic control.
  21. cnn President Donald Trump used his Thursday news conference with United Kingdom Prime Minister Keir Starmer to deliver a laundry list of long-debunked false claims about a variety of subjects, including inflation, immigration, tariffs and the attack on the US Capitol on January 6, 2021. 22. bbc Fifteen people have been charged with terrorism offences in Lithuania over the alleged Russian-backed detonation of parcels in Germany, Poland and the UK, prosecutors say. The suspects are accused of using delivery companies DHL and DPD to send four packages of explosives hidden in cosmetics containers from the Lithuanian capital Vilnius. Fires broke out in Germany, Poland and the UK in July last year, while the fourth parcel failed to ignite due to a malfunction. Lithuanian investigators say the plot was coordinated by individuals with links to Russian military intelligence services, and have previously said they were dry runs aimed at sabotaging flights to the US and Canada.
  23. bbc Romanian far-right former presidential candidate Calin Georgescu has been charged with attempting to stage a coup after the first round of the presidential election was annulled last December. Horatiu Potra, a former French legionnaire and militia chief in the Democratic Republic of Congo, and 20 other people were also charged. The case rests on a planned raid on the Romanian capital Bucharest on 8 December, which police foiled. Romanian prosecutors describe a plot targeting Romania's constitutional order, involving Georgescu, Potra, their group, and alleged foreign intelligence links.
