  • Radoye changed the title to RBR RB19 2023

https://racer.com/2023/02/03/red-bull-rb19-to-run-next-week-not-a-total-reflection-of-bahrain-car/

Quote

Red Bull’s new RB19 will run for the first time during a shakedown at Silverstone next week but the version shown at today’s launch is currently “not a total reflection” of its 2023 car.

At a high-profile launch event in Manhattan on Friday, Red Bull confirmed a future partnership with Ford from 2026 onwards, somewhat overshadowing the wider focus on the upcoming season and car reveal. The chassis that was displayed at the Classic Car Club (pictured above) is not the final RB19 but the new car will hit the track for the first time in the UK in a week’s time. Then there will be further developments introduced ahead of pre-season testing in Bahrain that team principal Christian Horner admits will make for a different version that runs in public.

Red Bull’s power units will be known as Honda RBPT engines in 2023 as part of a rebranding to highlight the Japanese manufacturer’s influence.

Despite the recent Ford announcement, the fact that Honda will remain involved for a further three years under the Honda Racing Corporation (HRC) banner means that will be highlighted in the naming of the power units that are run by both Red Bull and AlphaTauri. The engines will now be rebranded as Honda RBPT.

As part of the Red Bull Formula Nurburgring event on the same weekend as the 12 Hours of Nurburgring endurance race on 10th September, Red Bull will hold a demonstration run for a Formula 1 car on the legendary 21km circuit.

It has been almost ten years since the last time a Formula 1 car was demonstrated at the Nordschleife in 2013, when Michael Schumacher drove a 2011 Mercedes W02 on a demonstration lap of the famous course.

Details about the run are not yet known, however former McLaren and Red Bull racer Daniel Ricciardo has been signed as a third driver for Red Bull for this season, largely to carry out demonstrations of the team’s F1 cars for marketing purposes.

https://www.grandprix.com/news/red-bull-admits-a-lot-of-reliability-concerns.html

Quote

Red Bull's drivers have revealed their concern about car reliability.

After two races in 2023, it seems almost certain that this year's fight for the world championship will be between two drivers only - Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez.

At Jeddah, Perez won from pole - but arguably only because Verstappen's driveshaft failed in qualifying.

So while the situation suited the Mexican in Saudi Arabia, Perez is worried similar trouble might affect his Red Bull sooner or later.

"It's going to hit us at some point," he said. "Even in Bahrain, if we had to push to the end, we probably would have made it. So there are a lot of reliability concerns at the moment.

"We've had a lot of mechanical issues."

In Saudi Arabia, too, those on the Red Bull pitwall were furiously trying to control the drivers' pace at the front of the race.

"The biggest moment of concern was when Max told us he heard a loud noise. We immediately started thinking about the driveshaft problem from the day before," said team boss Christian Horner.

Perez says he also felt "strange vibrations" during the Saudi race.

"Obviously what happened to Max was in the back of my mind and I'm sure the back of the mind of the team as well," he said.

So far, the concerns have not stopped Red Bull from achieving a perfect record of two consecutive 1-2 finishes.

"The whole feeling in the team, everyone is happy," said world champion Verstappen. "But personally, I'm not happy.

"I'm not here to be second and when it looks like it's going to just be between two cars, we have to make sure that the two cars are reliable."

Even Frederic Vasseur, the new Ferrari team boss, thinks it could be reliability that ultimately determines whether Verstappen or Perez wins the title.

"Imagine now that Perez wins two more races and Verstappen retires - a gearbox fails and he gets a penalty for the next one," said the Frenchman.

"After Monaco, Perez is then 100 points ahead of Verstappen. These situations can happen - don't forget the season with Rosberg and Hamilton," Vasseur added, referring to 2016.

"Nobody expected Nico to win that world championship and then he did."

https://www.racefans.net/2023/03/31/red-bull-discovered-habits-ricciardo-picked-up-from-other-cars-limitations/

Quote

Daniel Ricciardo has made some telling changes to his driving style during the four years he spent away from Red Bull, according to team principal Christian Horner.
...

Horner said it was clear Ricciardo had tried to adapt his driving to the different cars he had experienced since leaving Red Bull.

“When he first turned up after Abu Dhabi – I think the problem is when you drive a car that obviously has its limitation you adapt and you try and adjust to extract the maximum out of that car. And it was clear when he came back that he picked up some habits that we didn’t recognise as the Daniel that had left us two or three years earlier.

“But having had time off over Christmas and so on and a chance to reset when he’s come back and got into the 2023 work, he’s hit the ground running.”

George Russell, who even led for a time in Melbourne before his fiery retirement, thinks Red Bull was carefully managing its pace last weekend.

"Certainly they're holding back," he told a BBC podcast.

"I think they're almost embarrassed to show their full potential because the faster they seem the more the sport will try to hold them back in some way."

Quote

Max Verstappen has reiterated a threat to walk away from Formula 1 if it continues to put what he considers to be business priorities ahead of sport.

...

Asked in Baku whether his quit threat was serious, Verstappen pointed out that he’s always intended for his F1 career to be short.

“I always said that anyway, even if there won’t be any more sprint races or whatever,” he said. “But yeah, I do feel that if it’s getting at one point too much, it’s time for a change.”
