Radoye
Quote Swiss watch brand Rebellion announced this morning that it will step away from all of motorsport activities following the 2020 Le Mans 24 Hours, meaning the team’s FIA WEC LMP1 program has just four races remaining. The announcement implies, but doesn’t categorically state, that Rebellion will no longer be a part of the forthcoming Peugeot Sport FIA WEC hypercar effort. Said Rebellion CEO Calim Boudhadra: “I am convinced that the Peugeot Brand’s challenge in WEC will be a great success in the future, which I regret not being able to attend.” This ends a 13-year run of involvement, racing as a privateer team at the highest levels of sportscar racing, as a front-running privateer team in the FIA World Endurance Championship and the Le Mans 24 Hours. The team has also competed in Dakar.
Radoye
Nije dobro krenulo za novu WEC specifikaciju: Quote Aston Martin set to cancel Hypercar program By: Marshall Pruett | 23 minutes ago A major blow has been dealt to the ACO and FIA World Endurance Championship’s plans with the cancellation of Aston Martin Racing’s Hypercar program utilizing its new Valkyrie road car. RACER has learned a formal announcement is imminent. Reached Monday, a brand representative declined to comment on the topic. Termination of the racing project for the 6.5-liter V12-powered machine comes on the heels of a major investment into the financially beleaguered British auto manufacturer led by Canadian Lawrence Stroll, who owns the Racing Point Formula 1 team, and will become Aston Martin’s executive chairman along with aligning the company with his F1 team in 2021. Factory-based racing programs involving Multimatic, which builds the car on behalf of Aston Martin, and R-Motorsport, which campaigned an Aston Martin DTM entry alongside GT3 programs using the brand’s Vantage model, were expected to enter a total of four cars to open the September 2020-June 2021 FIA WEC season. Aston Martin’s withdrawal from the new FIA WEC Hypercar class, which is set to debut in September, also places exceptional pressure on the ACO and FIA. It leaves Japanese auto brand Toyota as the only known manufacturer ready to answer the bell and go racing when the Hypercar formula debuts at Silverstone. Small American auto manufacturer Scuderia Cameron Glickenhaus intends to have its SCG 007 Hypercar ready to race in 2021, and the German ByKolles outfit, which announced it would build a Hypercar, has yet to demonstrate its words have resulted in the design or creation of something real. Last week, France’s Peugeot reconfirmed its intention to join the new top class of endurance racing in 2022 after its project partner Rebellion Racing revealed its plans to withdraw from the sport after June’s 24 Hours of Le Mans. Although Peugeot has not officially stated whether it would build a car to the Hypercar rules since regulatory convergence was achieved between the ACO and IMSA, it’s believed the Le Mans-winning company will follow IMSA’s new-for-2022 LMDh regulations. Nonetheless, barring the surprise appearance of a new Hypercar brand to compete alongside Toyota later this year, the formula will have a single brand in position with two cars to usher in the ACO/WEC’s new post-LMP1 era. Whether the Aston Martin news will force the ACO/WEC to reconsider its class structure in the early days of Hypercar, or opt to retain its current LMP1 structure where Toyota’s hybrid prototypes race for overall honors against non-hybrid privateers, is currently unknown. The collapse of Aston Martin’s Valkyrie Hypercar racing effect also raises questions on the formula’s viability when convergence takes place to start the 2021-2022 WEC season, and at the onset of IMSA’s 2022 WeatherTech SportsCar championship, where Hypercars and LMDhs are meant to race together in a unified class. With a dearth of Hypercars to fill the grid, and an uptick in the number of LMDh (DPi 2.0) manufacturers anticipated for 2022, sustainability could be a significant concern for those brands which side with Hypercar regulations. Revealed in January of 2019, Aston Martin CEO Andy Palmer said of the Valkyrie, “We have always said that we would one day bring Aston Martin back to Le Mans with the intention of going for the outright win when the time was right — now is that time. David Brown came here in 1959, with a car and a team of drivers capable of winning. We intend to do the same in 2021. “The Aston Martin Valkyrie is primed for such a challenge and sits perfectly within the ACO’s new Hypercar rule framework. Bringing to bear all of our previous experience and knowledge of competing at the top levels of motorsport, we embark on this most ambitious project with the necessary ingredients for success.” Problem sa Strulovicevom kupovinom Aston Martina je to sto su svi njihovi trkacki programi trenutno u saradnji sa Red Bulom. A kako ce uskoro RP da postane Aston Martin F1 tim, i uz sve vec uticaj Honde na RBR, neminovno je da Aston i Red Bul raskinu saradnju. Astonov WEC program je tu samo kolateralna steta. Radoye
Quote The 24 Hours of Le Mans, one of the world’s two greatest motor races, has been postponed from its traditional mid-June running to the weekend of September 19-20. To date, the change, which follows dozens of racing event postponements and cancellations in reaction to the COVID-19 virus pandemic, is the most significant of its kind. Radoye
Quote First technical details of Hypercar/LMDh rule convergence revealed Image by Levitt/Motorsport Images By Marshall Pruett | 17 hours ago The long-awaited information needed to shape the future of sports racing prototypes has been delivered to auto manufacturers and specialist constructors interested in the FIA WEC’s Hypercar formula, and those with an eye on IMSA’s LMDh category. RACER has learned both next-generation rule sets, which were meant to be unveiled in March at the combined IMSA and WEC SuperSebring event, have been distributed, and with the regulations in hand, the finer aspects of the Hypercar and LMDh formulas have been defined. It’s believed the biggest areas of commonality between the WEC’s inventive Hypercars and IMSA’s LMP2-based LMDhs has been found in an overall reduction in horsepower and a higher minimum weight. Rumors in recent months during the regulatory convergence process suggested a significant obstacle to clear, as a divide between the high-power desires for Hypercars and the medium-power needs for LMDh manufacturers posed a budgetary conflict. Something in the range of 785hp was targeted for the Hypercars, which have options to run with or without kinetic energy recovery systems (KERS), and was presented as the standard for both formulas to meet. But the majority of interested Hypercar and LMDh manufacturers are known to have pushed back at the figure. While reaching almost 800hp would have been easier on the Hypercar front due to the greater latitude with internal combustion engine (ICE) designs, considerable cost would have been involved. And on the IMSA side, where DPis make just over 600hp in their current non-hybrid form, manufacturers pressed to keep the same general output number in place, which would allow the carryover of those DPi ICE powerplants in the new LMDh formula and save a substantial amount of money. Had the Hypercar power peak been adopted, all-new, purebred racing engines would have been required in LMDh and jeopardized manufacturer participation due to the spike in budgets. Unlike the WEC’s top prototype class, IMSA’s DPis have both GT3-based engines and custom engine solutions; at 785hp, all of the GT3-derived motors would need to be shelved. The new peak power figure is said to be 670hp for Hypercar and LMDh, with IMSA’s new and spec KERS units providing enough power to reach the new number without requiring extra power from the ICE. A minimum weight of 1030 kilos, or 2271 pounds has also been agreed upon across both formulas, which is higher than expected, and likely accounts for the various powertrain and KERS combinations in Hypercar. More details on aerodynamics and other facets of the converged prototype formulas are also known to have been shared with manufacturers.

Radoye
Quote Acura has announced that its exclusive partnership with Team Penske to run its DPi programme in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship will end after the 2020 season. Legendary IndyCar and NASCAR team Penske struck a three-year deal to field a pair of Oreca-based Acura ARX-05s in IMSA's top class in 2017, with the car making its race debut in the Rolex 24 at Daytona the following year. The partnership scored its first victory at Mid-Ohio in 2018, its only success of that season, courtesy of Helio Castroneves and Ricky Taylor, and last year Juan Pablo Montoya and Dane Cameron won three more races en route to the Prototype title. Acura's announcement does not necessarily mean the end of its DPi programme, although its statement made no mention of whether the ARX-05s will race on in 2021. Ted Klaus, the head of Honda Performance Development, commented: “On behalf of everyone at Acura and HPD, we’d like to thank Team Penske for their incredible efforts and impressive results racing the ARX-05. “The success we’ve achieved together during the first two-plus years of the program makes us even more determined to score more victories, defend our championships, and conclude our partnership on the highest of notes.” Acura's announcement comes off the back of a tough start to the coronavirus-disrupted 2020 IMSA season, with neither of the Team Penske-run cars having so far logged a podium finish in the opening three rounds of the campaign. Montoya and Cameron have posted a best finish of fourth in the two Daytona rounds, the Rolex 24 in January and last month's WeatherTech 240, while Castroneves and Taylor have yet to finish higher than seventh in the eight-car DPi field. The Acura-Penske partnership has also yet to yield any wins in IMSA's three marquee events, the Rolex 24, Sebring 12 Hours and Petit Le Mans at Road Atlanta. Radoye
Penski se povlaci iz IMSA sampionata: https://racer.com/2020/07/30/penske-imsa-drivers-advised-to-seek-other-options-for-2021/ Quote Penske IMSA drivers advised to seek other options for 2021 Michael Levitt/Motorsport Images By Marshall Pruett | 19 hours ago With the upcoming end to the three-year relationship between Acura and Team Penske in IMSA’s Daytona Prototype international class, Team Penske president Tim Cindric says ATP’s high-profile drivers have been advised to search for new opportunities in 2021 and beyond. Reigning DPi champions Dane Cameron and Juan Pablo Montoya, along with teammates Helio Castroneves and Ricky Taylor in the sister Acura ARX-05, are among the most popular drivers in the WeatherTech SportsCar Championship, and with Team Penske’s post-Acura future somewhat uncertain in IMSA, the foursome is not anticipated to remain intact after the season concludes at the Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring in November. “It’s a real difficult thing for us because all those guys mean a lot to us,” Cindric told RACER. “We think the world of all of them, and we’ve been very upfront with them throughout this process with Acura. And we’ve told them all that, ‘Hey, going forward, you really need to look for what is in your best interests.’” Although Acura is expected to continue in DPi next year, likely with more than one team, Penske’s immediate return with a new manufacturer is considered unlikely as the auto industry deals with the financial effects of COVID-19. “With the uncertainty that’s out there right now, it’s very difficult to plan very far ahead, because those that you work with, whether they be the OEMs, the sponsors, or what have you, even the series in some cases, don’t have the answers either,” Cindric added. “So, it’s very difficult to put programs or plans in place that ordinarily we’d maybe be working on.” Among the four full-timers, Castroneves is the only driver to race for Penske outside of IMSA; he completes The Captain’s four-car Indianapolis 500 program in August. Beyond the three-time Indy 500 winner receiving future calls to race at the Speedway with the owner he’s driven for since 2000, Cameron, Montoya, and Taylor are more likely to land with new teams when the next WeatherTech Championship begins in January. “So, we’ve said to each of them, ‘Look, don’t wait for us, but we’ll certainly keep you abreast of what potential we have or whatever else,’ because we’d love to continue working with those guys or work with them again at some point,” Cindric added. “So, I can’t say that it’s a no, but I can’t say it’s a yes.”

Radoye
Opa, Montoja kanda odlucio da uzme triplu krunu pre Alonsa 😜 Quote Montoya set to join DragonSpeed for Le Mans By Marshall Pruett | 4 hours ago Juan Pablo Montoya is preparing for another run at the 24 Hours of Le Mans. RACER has learned reigning IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship DPi title-winner will join the DragonSpeed LMP2 team for the September 19-20 race, subject to approval by the event’s organizers. The Colombian is slated to share the No. 21 ORECA 07-Gibson in LMP2 with Frenchman Timothe Buret and Memo Rojas from Mexico. Montoya’s inclusion comes after plans to make use of Brazil’s Pipo Derani fell through, leading DragonSpeed to approach the two-time Indy 500 winner late last week. Although Montoya has yet to race with Buret, he’s spent countless hours in endurance competition with Rojas. As for Chip Ganassi Racing teammates, Montoya’s regular appearances at January’s Rolex 24 At Daytona during Grand-Am’s Daytona Prototype era had the CGR NASCAR driver paired with Rojas on multiple occasions; two wins were produced in 2008 and 2013. Montoya made his Le Mans debut in 2018 with the United Autosports LMP2 team, finishing third in class and seventh overall.
