Final figures will be available on Wednesday.

Velika nagrada Detroita originalno je vozena za F1 od 1982. da bi od 1989. presla pod Indikar. Ove trke su vozene na ulicnoj stazi u centru grada, na istoj lokaciji na kojoj se od prosle godine ponovo vozi ali u kompletno drugacijoj konfiguraciji staze - jedino je deo oko krivina 6 i 7 ostao sa originalne staze. Trka je zatim prebacena na ostrvo Bel Ajl, na pola puta izmedju Detroita i Vindzora u Kanadi, na spektakularnu stazu nalik Montrealu u F1. Uz povremene pauze tu je i ostala do 2022. kad su nedostatak infrastrukture za publiku i lose trasportne veze sa gradskim jezgrom uzrokovale da se trka ponovo prebaci u centar grada.

Staza na papiru prilicno neinspirativna, najinteresantniji detalj je dvostruki pitlejn - boksovi su i sa desne i sa leve strane. Ruzan okolis urbane pustinje u koju se Detroit polako pretvara i losa dzombasta podloga delovali su deprimirajuce nakon Bel Ajla, ali ispostavilo se da je trka prosle godine zapravo bila prilicno zanimljiva. Pobedio je Aleks Palu sa pola, nezadrzivo grabeci ka Indikar tituli.

 

Ove godine Palu ce imati tezi posao jer deluje da su Sevroleti, narocito Penskijevi, u veoma dobroj formi i to uprkos problemima sa diskvalifikacijom na premijeri sezone u St. Pitu. Nakon pobede na Indi 500 momentum je na strani Dzozefa Njugardena i bice ga tesko zaustaviti ovog vikenda...

MP: Last I heard was Penske Entertainment talking to Stellantis — Dodge, Chrysler, Peugeot, etc. — about coming in with one American brand and one European brand. They’re finally taking Honda seriously, and what’s likely to happen with the next engine formula is close to what Honda suggested, but it’s too soon to tell if the cost cuts and overall increase in value Honda’s been seeking will be enough to keep the brand in the series.

Six years, 11 months, and 23 days. That’s the gap between Tristan Vautier’s last NTT IndyCar Series start for Dale Coyne Racing and his next, which will take place on Sunday at the Detroit Grand Prix in the No. 51 Honda.

 

The talented Frenchman, winner of the 2012 Indy Lights championship, spent his rookie season in 2013 with the team known today as Arrow McLaren, and lacking a budget to continue, turned to sports cars before making a return to IndyCar in the second half of 2015 with Coyne where he produced a career-best finish of fourth at Detroit.

 

With his injured friend and countryman Sebastien Bourdais sidelined after suffering a major crash in qualifying at the 2017 Indianapolis 500, Vautier was among the drivers drafted in by Coyne to keep Bourdais’ car in action while he recovered. After placing 16th at Texas Motor Speedway that June, Vautier will get another opportunity to show his skills nearly seven years to the day of his last IndyCar outing.
