DW Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has said he would like to see China and countries of the Global South at a peace conference in Switzerland next month. Zelenskyy said China's attendance would allow it to come to terms with its fears that Russia losing in Ukraine would mean a victory for the West, which is undesirable to Beijing. Talking to the AFP news agency on Friday Zelenskyy said the Chinese leaders "want to find a balance between the two ... That's why I would like to see China involved in the peace summit." In the interview, Zelenskyy also called on other countries to send delegations to Switzerland for the summit, which will not be attended by Russia. "If there is no representative of your state, this is a public response that when you say that we all want peace, no, you want Russia to win," he said.

bbc Ukraine has pulled back its troops from several villages in the border region of Kharkiv following continued pressure from Russian forces. Soldiers had come under heavy fire and moved to "more advantageous positions" in two areas of the north-eastern region, a military spokesman said. Throughout the course of the two-year war, Ukraine has typically used this type of language to signify a retreat. President Volodymyr Zelensky has cancelled all upcoming foreign trips as troops struggle to contain the new cross-border incursion, with several towns and villages coming under heavy fire. A spokesman for the Ukrainian military said in a statement that the decision to move troops from the Lukyantsi and Vovchansk areas was taken to "preserve the lives of our servicemen and avoid losses". The capture of Vovchansk, though not of specific militarily significance, would represent a blow to Ukrainian morale. US Secretary of State Antony Blinken announced an additional $2bn in military aid to the Ukrainian war effort while on a visit to Kyiv. Mr Blinken told reporters on Wednesday the fund would provide weapons "today" and invest in Ukraine's industrial base. "We're rushing ammunition, armoured vehicles, missiles, air defences to get them to the front lines," Mr Blinken said. "We've been through challenging times together, I have every confidence that together we will get through these difficult moments."

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken tells President Volodymyr Zelensky that military aid is "now on its way" during a surprise visit to Kyiv. The top US diplomat tells the Ukrainian president the weapons will "make a real difference" against the ongoing Russian aggression on the battlefield. A senior US official says the American-funded weapons now arriving at the front line include air defence interceptors, artillery and ATACMS long-range precision guided missiles. The visit comes as the country struggles to hold back a major Russian incursion near its second biggest city of Kharkiv. The cross-border offensive in Kharkiv region is one of the most significant Russian ground attacks since the start of the war.

CNN Ukraine’s top general says the situation in the northern Kharkiv region has “significantly worsened” after Russia claimed to have captured four further villages as it expanded its surprise cross-border offensive. Speaking on British television, UK Foreign Secretary David Cameron acknowledged it was an “extremely dangerous moment,” adding that Russia had effectively “invaded [Ukraine] again.”

bbc Russian attacks in north-east Ukraine have prompted the evacuation of almost 1,800 people from the Kharkiv area, the regional governor has said. Heavy fighting has continued in the border area following Russia's surprise incursions on Friday. Kyiv has been expecting a Russian summer offensive for some time - including a possible attempt to capture Kharkiv, Ukraine's second city. On Saturday Russia said it had seized five villages near the town of Vovchansk in its latest offensive. The BBC has not been able to independently verify the claim. It is still not clear how far the Russians will advance - whether this is a probing attack or the start of something bigger. Ukrainian artillery guns are now firing back. The booms of exchanging fire echo loudly down the already bomb-damaged streets. A total of 1,775 people have been evacuated, Kharkiv regional head Oleh Syniehubov said on social media. Hundreds more remain in Vovchansk, just 6km (3.7 miles) from the Russian border. Russia's air force is having an increasingly deadly effect, and for now Ukraine has no answer. Reports suggest Moscow is hoping to create a 10km (six-mile) buffer zone for its Belgorod region, after a series of Ukrainian cross-border attacks.

Bice bas zestoko narednih dana i nedelja.

bbc Ukraine says it has repelled a Russian armoured attack in the north-eastern Kharkiv region, after Moscow's forces launched an incursion across the border and sought to break through defensive lines. Kharkiv regional head Oleh Syniehubov said Russian reconnaissance groups had tried to penetrate the border, adding that "not a single metre has been lost". "Ukraine met them there with troops: brigades and artillery," President Volodymyr Zelensky told a news conference. The defence ministry in Kyiv said the attack started with the heavy bombing of small settlements. Russian air strikes attacked Vovchansk "using guided aerial bombs" with the support of artillery, before small Russian “scouting groups” moved in. The local head in Vovchansk said the town had come under heavy attack from the early hours of Friday and civilians were being evacuated. At least one person was killed and five more injured in the barrage, Mr Syniehubov said. "At approximately 05:00, there was an attempt by the enemy to break through our defensive line under the cover of armoured vehicles. As of now, these attacks have been repulsed, fighting of varying intensity continues," the defence ministry said.

Putin u govoru na Dan pobede trazi od Rusa da prihvate nove zrtve cnn “Russia is now going through a difficult, transitional period,” he said in a speech before the parade. “The fate of the motherland, its future depends on each of us … We celebrate Victory Day in the context of the special military operation. All its participants — those who are on the front line, on the line of combat contact — are our heroes. We bow to your perseverance and self-sacrifice, dedication. All of Russia is with you!”

Snabdevanje strujom Ukrajne je novi veliki problem koji ce EU morati brzo da resava bbc Russia has launched a "massive" early morning missile and drone attack on energy facilities across Ukraine, President Volodymyr Zelensky has said. More than 50 missiles and 20 drones were used in the attack, Mr Zelensky said in a post on X. The strikes are the latest in an escalating Russian campaign targeting Ukraine's energy grid that began in March. Waves of attacks have forced authorities in Ukraine to impose rolling blackouts in several regions. Despite the damage, Ukraine's air force said it intercepted dozens of missiles and 20 of 21 Iranian-made Shahed drones fired towards the country. Experts say the true impact of the Russian attacks may not be felt until annual energy consumption peaks in the winter.

To me zanimalo, dakle Xi ne otvara fabriku, nego tek nesto potpisuje.

cnn Xi’s visit to Belgrade will coincide with the week of the 25th anniversary of NATO’s bombing of the Chinese embassy in Belgrade that killed three. The attack, part of a wider bombing campaign by NATO in the Balkans during the spring of 1999, drove Beijing’s deep enmity for the alliance, even as the US said it was an accident.

The earnings, announced Thursday, highlight the dramatic decline of Gazprom, one of Russia’s most powerful companies. Analysts had expected net income of 447 billion rubles ($4.9 billion) in 2023, according to Interfax news agency. The company made a net profit of 1.2 trillion ($13.1 billion) rubles in 2022, the year Russia launched its full-scale invasion of Ukraine. According to Reuters’ calculations, the company’s natural gas supplies to Europe plummeted 55.6% to 28.3 billion cubic meters last year. Gazprom has not published its own export statistics since the start of 2023. The company’s core profit, or earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization known as EBITDA, dropped to 618.38 billion rubles ($6.7 billion) last year from 2.79 trillion rubles ($30.4 billion) in 2022, according to Reuters’ calculations.

A u Rusiji se spremaju za letnju ofanzivu koja bi mogla da krene svom silom vec za 2-3 nedelje. bbc Ukrainian intelligence officials also believe Russia is gearing up for a summer offensive in the north-eastern regions of Kharkiv and Sumy. The commander of the national guard, Oleksandr Pivnenko, warned recently that Russia was preparing "unpleasant surprises" and quietly recruiting 30,000 people a month.
