Press Release on Valentino Rossi Leaving Factory Yamaha Team

The Yamaha Factory Racing MotoGP Team look back with great pride on their successful 15-year long journey with MotoGP legend Valentino Rossi.



With the 2020 MotoGP season having come to an end, the Yamaha Factory Racing MotoGP Team want to thank Valentino Rossi for his 15 years of outstanding hard work, dedication, and passion. He has been a key member of the Yamaha family during two long terms in his impressive Grand Prix racing career (from 2004 – 2010 and from 2013 – 2020). The Factory Yamaha MotoGP Team take this opportunity to share their heartfelt appreciation of the still very much active MotoGP legend, as well as the departing crew members, and celebrate their remarkable achievements.

Valentino started riding for the team in 2004 and stayed for seven years, then had a brief two-year stint at Ducati, before he came back to Yamaha where he refound his purpose, his energy, and his performance. His second term with the Factory Yamaha MotoGP Team lasted eight years, one year longer than his first term and a clear indication of how much the Italian feels at home with Yamaha.

Valentino‘s list of results achieved with the Factory Yamaha Team is extensive. He earned 4 MotoGP World Championship Titles and secured 56 victories and 142 podiums in their 255 Grand Prix races together.

Besides Valentino, the Factory Yamaha Team is also saying goodbye to highly-esteemed and much-appreciated colleagues Brent Stephens (Mechanic since 1999), Alex Briggs (Mechanic since 2004), Matteo Flamigni (Data Engineer since 2000), David Muñoz (Crew Chief since 2020), and Idalio Gavira (Rider Performance Analyst since 2019), who are all part of The Doctor‘s crew.

Alex and Brent will be leaving Yamaha, whilst David, Matteo, and Idalio will continue their work with Valentino as a part of PETRONAS Yamaha SRT in 2021.

Also, Javier Ullate (Mechanic since 2003) will be leaving the team. In the 18 years he spent as a part of the Factory Yamaha crew, he worked with big names such as Carlos Checa, Marco Melandri, Colin Edwards, Jorge Lorenzo, and Maverick Viñales, helping them secure many victories and podiums, including three titles with Jorge.

The Yamaha Factory Racing MotoGP Team couldn‘t let this occasion go by unnoticed. On Thursday 19 November, the entire staff (including the staff and friends of the team who are not in Portugal, who attended the event online) met up at the Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP garage to give the leaving members the appreciation they deserve and present them with some parting gifts.

The Factory Yamaha MotoGP Team once again sincerely thank Valentino and the departing team members for their hard work, professionalism, dedication, and passion. Their stellar contribution and results will always remain a part of Yamaha‘s racing legacy.

This is an emotional moment. It‘s always sad to bid farewell, especially to people who have been such a vital part of the team. But nothing in life is continuous, nothing remains the same, and that‘s also the nature of MotoGP. The situation in the paddock is constantly evolving. People come into the team, some leave, and some come back again.



“2020 was Valentino‘s 15th season with the Yamaha Factory Racing MotoGP Team. I have very vivid memories of those years. There have been highs and lows – it‘s been a roller-coaster ride, but his list with results on a Yamaha is seriously impressive: 4 MotoGP World Championship Titles, 255 Grand Prix races, 56 victories, 142 podiums. It‘s amazing how much he achieved during his time with us.

“In Valentino‘s case we are now facing what I would call ’a changing of the guard‘. Though he is leaving the Factory Yamaha MotoGP Team, this is not the end of his career. This is not a complete farewell scenario, this is a transition moment. It‘s important, regardless, because Valentino has been part of our team for so long. But next year he will be next door, so he will stay close. His factory-rider status continues, and he will continue riding a factory YZR-M1 with full support from Yamaha Motor Co., Ltd. He will also be taking Crew Chief David, Data Engineer Matteo, and Rider Performance Analyst Idalio with him, so he will be surrounded by some familiar faces in the PETRONAS Yamaha SRT garage.

“Brent, Alex, and Javier will finish their long-term working collaboration with Yamaha. Their expertise, professionalism, and passion for the job is something that kept our team going for many years, so it‘s very sad to have to say goodbye to them. We wish them all the best for the future and hope to stay in touch.

 

VALENTINO ROSSI

This is an important moment, because this is the end of our long journey together. Our history, between me and the Yamaha Factory Racing MotoGP Team, is divided into two parts – almost like a good movie, I think.



“The first part is from the beginning in 2004 to 2010. I think that was the best part of my career. We wrote history for Yamaha. We were able to win the championship for Yamaha after twenty-something years. I will always remember these achievements, for sure, because they are key moments in my career too.

“But I‘m also very proud of the second part. I want to say ’Thanks‘ again to Lin and all of Yamaha. They gave me a chance to come back to the Factory Team after two bad years with another factory, when I was already ’getting old‘ by MotoGP-standards, so I was desperate. I will never forget the moment when Lin told me I would have a chance to come back here. I‘ll always be thankful for that moment, because maybe I could also have stopped riding at that time if I wasn‘t able to come back here. My return to the Factory Yamaha team has lasted 8 years, so one year longer than the first part. The second part was a bit more difficult in terms of results, but we did come close to winning a championship at one point, which could have changed our story. But things happened the way they happened, and I‘m still thankful for the support I got from Lin, Maio, and all the Japanese engineers. But especially I want to say ’Thank you‘ to my crew. We‘ve been together for a long time. Bernie, Alex, Brent, Matteo, Mark, David, Idalio, and more. I also want to say thanks to the other guys from the team and the hospitality staff. And of course to my mate Maverick: we also had a good atmosphere with that side of the box, so I want to thank them too.

“Next year I will still be riding a factory bike with full factory support, just in different colours. It‘s true, I will not be sitting in the Yamaha Factory Racing garage, but I will be just next door – together with Matteo, Idalio, and David – so for sure we can still say hello.

Bila je ovo jedna posebna sezona-ne ponovila se!

Imali smo 9 razlicitih pobednika na 4 razlicita motocikla, jedino Honda, da Honda i Aprilija nisu pobedjivali a samo Aprilija nije imala vozaca ni na podijumu gde je tokom 14 trka stajalo cak 15 razlicitih vozaca (zato cu nabrojati samo one koji nisu, trojac Aprilije, Rabat, koji je imao uzasnu sezonu i vreme mu je da napusti kraljevsku klasu, Bradl, stariji Markez, Kraclou, Lekuona, Kalio, Piro i opet neverovatno ali istinito jedan od najkonstannijih ove sezone, Taka Nakagami).

 

Mark Markez je predao svoju titulu napravisi tri kobne greske u Herezu u razmaku od 7 dana i sada mu je dalja karijera upitna. Ovaj sport nije isti bez njega i dok se ne pojavi opet neko ko ce da dominira imacemo ovo bezvlasce i na neki nacin lutriju.

 

Dorna je dobila spektakl koji je zelala, ali ovo se sad umesto na sport vozaca, pa prozivodjaca svodi na lutriju a tome najvise kumuju gume. I dok je Dorna napravila dobar potez sa ozivljanjem svih fabrika kroz koncesije, toliko je ubila prave takmicare vezuci se za samo jednog proizvodjaca guma. Gume su oduvek bile veliki faktor i svaka promene konstrukije gume za nvu sezonu ili menjanjem dobavljaca je imala za posledicu da neki vozaci steknu, odnosnoiygube prednost, sto nije fer. Razlicitost vozackih stilova je ono sto bi trebalo da je pozeljno, pa savko moze navijati za nekoga koji odgovara njegovom senzibilitetu, ali ostaviti neke ljude bez sansi samo zarad spektakla nije u redu. Zato je potrebno vratiti rat gumara (sto se nece desiti, Dorna to nece dopustiti zbog eskalaciej troskova) gde bi svaki prozdvodjac sigruno pravio gumu po idejma svog glavnog vozaca, ali sigurno da bi vrsio i korekcije ako broj 2 ili broj 3 nisu zadovoljni.

 

Na kraju ove sezone iz sampionata odlaze Kraclou, apsolutni beskompromisni borac, covek velike hrabrosti i neko ko je u kvalifikacijama umeo tokom karijere da pravi cuda, uvek spreman da ide 101%, tj preko granice ludila i meni jedan od najdrazih vozaca za malo vise od dve decenije koliko pratim ovaj sport i bas ce nedostajati. On ide u Jamahu da bude test vozac.

Nece biti ni Dovicioza, covek koji je najvise ostecen promenom guma za ovu sezonu. NIje mnogo njih volelo njegovu proracunatost, odsutvo ludosti i hrabosti (sve suprotono od Kraclou), ali pethodne tri godine je bio vicesampion, medjutim vrednovao je sebe vise nego sto je Dukti bio spreman dda gaplati. Najavio je da ce pauzirati jednu sezonu pa pokusati da nadje angazman za 2022, ali ako drasticno ne smanji finansijske apatite, rekao bih za jedno dve trecine, necemo ga vise gledati u sampionatu.

 

Titulu je uzeo MIr, rekao bih zasluzeno, Suzuki je mnogo napredovao, on je bio najkonstantniji, iako je samo jdnom popio pobednicki sampanjac, ali sada kad je meta svima, videcemo da li ce uspeti i da je odbrani dogodine.

Najprijatnije iznenadjenje sezone ipak nisu Suzuki i Mir vec KTM. Tri pobede, brojni podijumi, jedino Lekuona od njihovih regularnih vozaca nije pio sampanjac, a njavise je odusevio Oliveira, koji je bio brz u svim nizim klasama, ali stalno bez titule, pa je malo ko verovao da moze do najvisih dometa, a on je zabelezio dve pobede i profilisao se kao ozbiljan izazivac Mira dogodine.

Jos jedno prijatno iznenadjenje (a meni nimalo drago, jer pored Bindera ne volim nijednog od aktuelnih vozaca Jamahe) je bio Franko Morbideli. Covek koji nikad nije imao cistu brzinu, bivsi svetski prvak u Moto 2, ali to je klasa koja trazi metronome i sjajne vozace tempa, ali ne i kvalifikacionu moc i cistu brzinu, tako da su njegove 3 pobede i vicesampionska titula zaista nesto sto nije mogao predvideti ni njegov najveci navijac. Sad kad se sagleda unazad, da mu se nije pokvarila jamaha dok je bio na podijumskoj poziciji u drugoj trci sezone, te da nijebilo onog najmonstruoznijeg udesa sezone u Austriji, kad ga je Zarko pokupio pa su zajedno izazvali apokalipsu, covek je mogao postati svetski prvak, a sve to sa nesto slabijom verzijom Jamahe u odnosu na 3 preostala vozaca ove marke.

 

U sledecoj godini ce biti jako puno novih lica, dosta ljudi je izmenjalo i timove, ali o tome u nekom uvodu za sezonu 2021, jer ce ista ipak njavise zavistiti od toga hoce li u njoj biti Marka Markeza ili ne.

Ok, planiram od ove godine da malo intenzivnije pratim moto trke pored F1.

Sta predlazete koja je najbolja platforma za gledanje ( sport klub mi nemojte spominjati ako su ona dva lika jos uvek tamo).

Za F1 sam placao pretplatu mesecnu od 790 dingera i gledam na telefonu ili laptopu.

Video pass na sajtu je bez dileme najbolja stvar, ali je bas skup.

 

Sto se tice sezone, Aleks Markez izgleda polomio stopalo na testu.

 

Jamahe zverski brzi, Dukati ponovo najjaci na pravcu, Aprilija pokazala znake pomaka, Suzukijevi vozaci ce biti glavni suparnici Jamahinom trojcu za titulu, a ako je suditi po testovima KTM-u sledi tezak sunovrat.

 

Honda u starom problemu, brza, ali njeni vozaci su najvise padali na testu. Mark je prijavljen za prvu trku, ali najverovatnije nece voziti pre maja.

Padalo mi je na pamet da se javim ovde, ali izgleda da nema previse interesa. A ima dosta zanimljivih vesti, od najavljenog pa odgodjenog povratka Marqueza preko sulude Ducatijeve aerodinamike do relativno konkurentnog vremena koje je postizao Rossi u testiranjima...

 

Hoce li biti forumske prognoze ove godine?

Otvaraj onda prognozu, tj temu 🙂

 

Ako se Markez vrati zaista od trece trke uzece titulu opet jer po danasnjim rezultatima Dukati ce pokidati ove prve dve, a generalno ipak ce Jamahini i Suzukijevi vozaci biti glavni takmac Marku, pa ovo deluje kao kradja bodova ako Desmodiciji poune podijum u Dohi.

 

Raduje i odlican pocetak Aprilije, ali umeli su i pre biti brzi petkom i subotom pa nestanu u nedelju, iskreno navijam da to prekosutra ne bude slucaj.

I ja bih se ufatio toga, ali sam mator i totalno glup za te neke grafike i tabele - jebote, jedva umem da naspisem email....

 

Ald' otvori temu tamo gore na prognozi.

 

Sjebacu se jer pisem emotivno a ne racionalno.

Navijam za Rossija jer sam mu poznavao caleta, jos dok je Graziano vozio trke. Ej, vecina forumasa nisu ni bili rodjeni, a ja sam bio na Grobniku kad je G. Rossi pobedio u 250 klasi. A upoznao sam ga pre, u Opatiji.

 

Dakle, daj temu.

 

A ovde, ima zanimljivosti.

Znam i trkacku i mehanicirsku stranu, samo donekle i od pre milion godina.

Ovde, posto je razvoj masina zamrznut, zanima me ova Ducatijeva aerodinamika. Zna li neko vise (ili razume bolje) od objavljenog u mas-medijima?

Pridruzujem se na temi. Tezak sam laik, al sa solidnim stazom 🙂 .

Nekad sam navijao za Spance (Krivilje, Zibernau), ali ih od Pedrose, Lorenca i Markeza hejtujem.

Napred Franko, deda, Banjaja i mladici na prastarom Dukatiju.

A sezona ce me vec nositi u smeru kog cu jos zgotiviti.

Juce potavljen novi zvanicni rekord u maksimalnoj brzini, ko drugi nego Dukati i naravno Zarko, 362.4 km/h.

S obzirom na takvu dominaciju na pravcu danas ocekujem dominaciju Desmodicija u trci, samo ako se ne poizbacuju medjusobno.

Ono sto mi se ne svidja je cinjenica da su Jamahe dosta spremnije nego prosle godine i da ce ih na vecini staza biti jako tesko uhvatiti.

Kakav fijasko Dukatija! Vec nakon prve trke usudjujem se da kazem da ni ove godine ne mogu do titule, iako imaju brutalnu masinu, a Dzek Miler je vozac iskljucivo za privatne timove, gde ce par puta da bljesne tokom sezone, ali titulu videti nikad nece. Dozvolit na ovakvoj stazi poraz od Jamahe je zaista neprihvatljivo, pa kako ce sa istom izaci na stazama koje nemaju ovakav pravac vec gomilu brzih krivina!?

 

Zarko je odusevio, a Mir ima lepe sanse da odbrani titulu ako se Markez ne vrati za trecu trku.

Nema šanse da Markez od prve trke bude u starom ritmu. Mora da će mu barem u prvih par trka kljucati u glavi koliko lako može da se izgubi čitava godina i ugrozi karijera. Uopšte ga ne vidim kao favorita za titulu, sve i da mu je mašina na dovoljnom nivou, što se ne bi baš reklo na osnovu današnjeg Hondinog nastupa.

Juce pobede za Vinjalesa i Suzuki, iako to nije tako delovalo na startu. Uh, kako su krenuli Dukatiji, ono je bilo furiozno... Ali opet, azdaja izgleda guta gume, a motor na pravcima nije izvlacio pun potencijal. Suzuki se opet muci sa jednim brzim krugom, ali kako trka odmice postaje najbolji motocikl. Uz konstantnost vozaca meni deluju kao favoriti. A ono gde nema konstantnosti su Jamahe, skroz rasute po poretku. Al opet, Vinjalesu svaka cast. Prosle sezone nije dobio ni jedan ozbiljan duel, dok je juce bio zaista impresivan. Ipak, to je Maverik, njegov off switch je dobro poznat, zato Suzukijima prednost.

O Marku ne bih dok se ne vrati, da ne hejtujem povredjenog coveka 🙂

Martinu su kvalifikacije kroz karijeru jaca strana, ali ovo je ipak skroz neocekivano, svaka cast!

 

S druge strane Doktor nece da prihvati penziju pa to ti je, a ocito mu je bilo vreme odavno. Sto se mene tice samo nek nastavi dalje, uvek ga je lepo videti pri dnu.

 

Miler bas, bas razocarao. Kad je ovakav u kvalifikacijama sta ce biti sutra? Umesto da se bori za pobedu bice srecan ako zavrsi u 10, velika sramota.
