intervju s Gritsch-om

https://www.tt.com/sport/sportreport/15701908/fitnesstrainer-gritsch-djokovics-karriere-stand-auf-der-kippe

Quote

  eng:

Quote

Gritsch: Novak was no longer competitive in 2018. He has had to fight against every average player and has lost a lot. We then did a lot of training, much more than the years before. It was the same system, but we worked much more focused. Novak knew: either-or. His career was in the balance.

Before that, US legends Andre Agassi and Radek Stepanek should help him as a coach.

Gritsch: Agassi and Stepanek just wanted to go and change Djokovic. That will not do. You can not change someone if you do not know how it works. They both had no time, wanted to change a lot as soon as possible. That was the wrong way.

Quote

Quote

Agassi was not right for Djokovic?

Gritsch: Agassi fits Djokovic, but he has too little experience as a coach. He has looked too much at tennis and too little at human part. But first you need trust - and Novak is someone who takes an extremely long time to trust somebody. It's also logical: so many people come to him, tell him how good he is, what he can do better. You can not let anyone to you.

Quote

Quote

Another comparison: If you see his way to the first French Open title in 2016, there are interesting parallels this year (Madrid victory, Rome finale).

Gritsch: I agree with that. Only the competition is stronger this year. I think it will be a very close story, also for Rafael Nadal. He looks good now, but I'm not sure he'll make it over seven games.

Quote

Djokovic, on the other hand, is in very good shape. Is this his best clay court form?

Gritsch: He was already better. But at the Grand Slam tournaments you need the top form only at the end. Every game gets harder, the last one the most. This was seen at Dominic Thiem last year. The top people turn up additionally in the final.

Quote

(lacht)

Quote

For now, you are at Djokovic's service.

Gritsch: Currently. But I'm involved during the clay season until Wimbledon, then we'll see. I was very much on the road with Djokovic this year. But after so many years I want to do something different.

Go hiking in the Tyrolean mountains?

Gritsch: Exactly, that would be a nice change. (Laughs)
